Gothic Paranormal Romance
The paranormal genre is Gothic in its spirit and nature. All paranormal phenomena is beyond the range of scientific explanation. So it has an element of suspense coming from the mystery that the gothic paranormal romance envelops it in. The term Goth is used for a youth subculture based on the aesthetic of the Gothic novel, Edgar Allan Poe, and vampire tales, especially their contemporary updating by Anne Rice. It has been speculated that the Goth aesthetic originated in the early 1800's as a reaction to the then wide-spread tuberculosis and that its modern revival was a reaction to the current AIDS epidemic.
